Mariposa, Watercolour, 2004

This large watercolour was created for a specific space, the niche in one of the bedrooms in the small, friendly, family hotel that I was put up in while on a Residency in Monteverde, Costa Rica.  

I had been enchanted by the massive blue butterflies (Morpho Menelaus) that drifted through the lush greenery of the cloud forest, with of which were the inspiration for this work on paper.
